ARCH-E 4th Project Conference

The ARCH-E project, analysing and developping recommendations for architectural design competitions (ADC) from a transational European perspective is heading towards its final phase. The 4th project conference hosted by the lead partner of the project, the Austian Bundesziviltechniker*innenkammer BKZT, took place 27/28th February in Vienna.

SIA international is a cooperation partner of the ARCH-E project and coordinating the Input of Swiss stakeholders to different work packages by SIA and CSA. The Vienna-conference was attended by Simon Hubacher, Board member of SIA International and coordinator for the Swiss project input, and Laurindo Lietha assuming International coordination within the SIA.

The agenda of the event included the discussion of ground breaking study results of the first Europea "ADC Map" and the "Architects Needs Study" led by the academic partners of the consortium, TU Eindhoven and Politechnical University of Valencia, as well a focus on the ARCH-E-White Paper with recommendations how to foster and promote crossborder design competitions and tackle barriers to participating in competitions across Europe. The project event also included fascinating inputs offering different perspectives on ADCs, including a statement by Ruth Schageman, president of ACE (Architecture Council of Europe), or a glimpse at the client’s perspective by Mrs Susanne Holler-Mündl from BIG (Bundesimmobiliengesellschaft), one of the largest public real estate managers in Austria, stressing the close relationship between the quality of project preparation and competition and design results.

The event was concluded by an extended excursion and project visits in the new Sonnwendviertel around the Vienna Central Station. Many thanks to the BKZT and their team for their hospitality and the excellent meeting results!
